Why you feel numb when you post on social media

a love letter to the stuck, the numb, and the beautifully unfinished business owners who want to post on socials but just can't seem to get there

No wonder you don’t feel creative.

I was there. 5 years ago, wanting to post about the work I was doing but holding myself back because of a whole lot of reasons.

🦋 I didn’t want to define myself
🦋 I didn’t want to try and fail and for everyone to watch
🦋 I was shoulding myself

The content I was taking in was:

“5 ways to make a full-time income from Instagram this year!”
“What NOT to do when starting a YouTube channel”
“The BEST website builder to start your blog”

Hence, I thought in order to show up, I thought I had to be valuable, action-oriented, educational, perfect in every single way. Nobody would care what I was posting if I wasn’t, right?

The content I was taking in wasn’t feeding me but making me feel like everything I’d do was wrong. And hey… that was on me! That was my brain doing that, not their content.

I’ve been sitting with this metaphor lately:

If you had a garden and one of your plants got bugs, what would you do? Probably isolate it. Keep it from touching the others so the infestation doesn’t spread.

Now, I’m not saying people are bugs (truly, I'm not 😅), but I am saying that the digital energy we’re surrounded by has a way of spilling over into our own work.

If your feed is full of content that feels shaming, noisy, cold, or performative… it’s no surprise that your own creativity feels like it’s gone underground. It’s protecting itself.

It’s also no surprise that you open Instagram or Substack or Pinterest and feel… numb.
Not “bad” necessarily. Just disconnected. Like there’s a fog between you and the impulse to make something.

And it’s definitely no surprise that you’ve been thinking about posting something for days or weeks but you haven’t. Nobody’s given you permission to break the rules… or you’re not giving it to yourself!!

Because somewhere in your body, you know: creativity can’t bloom in a garden full of bugs.

So let’s start there.
Before strategy. Before content ideas. Before content calendars, pillars, topics, themes, repurposing, all of that noise.
Before trying to force a post through clenched teeth.

Start with the question:
Who am I surrounding myself with online?
Do they inspire me to be more myself—or do they make me shrink?

And if not, it’s time to curate!!

(Watch or listen for more! 😌)
