In 2020 I started designing my tiny rental apartment for fun. With all this creative energy I had, I needed an outlet, and I wanted my home to be as cozy a space as ever to build, craft and romanticize what would be the beginnings of Studio Violet.
This week, I was musing on how the way you invest, sustain and love content creation for your business is more like inviting people into a home, rather than pushing a belief onto them or forcing anything.
Here’s a little bit of what we talk about!
🌸 How “sprinkling fairy dust” shifted the way I do networking & social media
💌 The difference between inviting vs. pitching your work
🏡 What it means to truly build a world through your brand
🫶 How falling back in love with your business makes creating content so much easier!

In 2020 I was in acting school, but because of the things that happened in 2020, I could not be in acting school anymore. Like many of us, I was at home and when I was at home, I started getting really into interior design. I loved imagining and putting my creativity on the walls and thinking like, what can I do with what I have?
What was more fun too is the fact that I was a renter too, and I had all of these restrictions. It was almost a challenge of What can I do within this limited space and within the rules of being a tenant?
And so as I started getting back into performing, I was thinking about how my love for interior design was able to bleed into my love for being a performer. My love for being an artist I had then taught myself my love for branding,
and I realized that content creation as a whole, is all about building a home for a brand for your business.
And building this home has been something that I've been thinking about as I've been venturing more into networking events and meeting more people. It's funny because when you go to these networking events, a lot of people say, you know, well, we're here for meeting other women and we're here for.
Building our network, but what it ends up being is just selling yourself and just pitching your services. By the way, I'm Kira. Welcome back to the podcast. I am the artist and creative director at Studio Violet. If you like tips on content creation and a way to look at social media in a more energetic, artistic spotlight, feel free to follow along.
I was at all these networking events and what they ended up saying was that we're here to network, we're here to meet more people. But what I felt like everyone was doing was they were just waiting their turn.
We would do speed networking things. They would wait their turn. Half listening to what everyone else was saying. And then they would say, okay, so I'm so and so and I help female X, Y, Z, do X, Y, Z. Have you ever wondered why your website wasn't converting la la la? And they had this whole script and it felt so impersonal, and it made me think about what the real purpose of having a brand having a business is.
I've been thinking about how it's so much like my love for interior design of building this world for someone and the actions that I was taking, even though I was going into these hoping that I would get sales, I was kind of convincing myself, well, no, I'm trying to build my network,
nothing was hitting because I was going into it in this energy of what can I get from this? Instead of like, how can I bring people into my world? And the way that I like to approach pretty much everything, I like to look at the world in a very fairy lore like lens. So when I think about bringing someone into my world, I almost think of just sprinkling them with fairy dust as I was venturing into these networking groups, I was thinking, well, instead of just talking at these people what would it look like if I was. Just tossing fairy dust on people and giving them like a little twinkle of love and welcoming them into my world, into my home, so that if they were interested in learning more or, you know, coming over for tea, it was a warm welcome, but it wasn't this feeling of you need to come over, you need to be here.
That really changed my perspective about not only networking, but content creation as a whole, which is what this podcast is all about, is how do you make your content creation, your social media easier? How do you make it an effortless part of what you're already doing in your life so that dream clients can not only go down the funnel, but actually.
Feel the world as soon as you interact with them, whether that's on your website, on your social media, in a networking event, showing them a little taste of the magic outside of your home, outside of your world, so that they can get like a little taste of it.
And so that they wanna come in, they wanna experience the full. The full space. And for you, that could be going through your consulting program, your six week consulting program, or signing on a retainer client or whatever your coaching or consulting service might be. There's always a way that you can bring a little bit of that fairy dust into any conversation that you have where it's not as much forcing people to listen, but you're just like.
You're just throwing a little magic on the conversation through who you are. Now, the concept of like throwing fairy dust on something I know sounds ethereal, but it really is just bringing a little bit of like magic and love to every single conversation or every single touch point you have. And that way networking and content creation more specifically doesn't have to feel like it's selling.
And that's a lot of the hesitations that I see when I work with clients is I don't wanna overly sell or I wanna do content creation. Like I've learned the power of the not selling, selling of how you can kind of subtly sell something, but I also understand the power of following up and language that you can use and asking people.
So is this something you're interested in? And so now I've finally found this middle ground, and hopefully you have too, with what you've built with your business is the happy medium between. Selling something and not feeling icky, but also being extremely clear with what you offer and just genuinely asking people.
Is that the world that you want to be in right now, for lack of a better term? Is that the magic that you are looking for right now?
The deeper message here is we think social media posting is. Posting at people And I try so hard when I work with clients to not use the phrase marketing in it because I truly believe that content creation is a form of self-expression, and specifically it is bringing people a little bit into that world.
If you think about an artist. Let's say a painter, whenever they create something, they're basically showing you how the world looks through their eyes. And as a business owner, as a consultant or a coach, any service-based business owner that you might be, that is what your service is. It's bringing people into your world and showing them, this is how I see the world, this is how I work.
And if you want a taste of that, then you know you're welcome to come in here and. That is what having a beautiful. Brand is, that purely pristine, magical, perfect, like epitome of everything that you are.
As a brand is there's so many adjectives that you could use as your brand, so I don't wanna say that's what having a bold brand is, or a feminine brand or whatever that might be. But it's the brand of you that like quintessential just sphere capturing every single part of you that creates the brand.
When you have that brand, then you're able to bring your world onto multiple different platforms, whether that's Instagram or Substack or YouTube. When you are clear on who you are, then you're clear on your brand, of course.
And that's what I want to talk about is because the reason why so many women I know are not posting on social media is because it feels like I have to post on social media. I have to create this content, I have to do it right. That's not going to bring someone into your world is the have tos that's not actually gonna depict the world that you create for people, not just in your branding, but as a reflection of the work you do, which is you.
You want to be able to throw a little bit of fairy dust in the feed every single time you create something and just letting people know, Hey, this is who I am. This is the lens in which I'm seeing the world today. If that resonates with someone, that's amazing. But it's like the purpose of creating content is putting something beautiful into the world and showing what you think about something within your eyes.
That's what marketing is. We can get so caught up in all this language and the language is there for a reason for sure,
For people to hear you. It's for you to put magic into the world. If we're getting really deep, I think the purpose of life is to expand, and I think that if every single person in the world was doing what they loved, the crossing guard would love being a crossing guard.
The teacher would love being a teacher. The world would be a much more beautiful place. So if we look at that in that perspective, and if we say we are just doing what we love then the excitement for the work that we're doing is just going to come out through who we are it's that feeling when someone asks you about something and you completely light up. And I know that that's why you started a business because there's some element of your business where someone asks you something and you have to put your hand on your heart and you go, oh my gosh, yes, let's talk about it.
You could sit down and drink tea and have snacks for like an hour and talk about your feelings about something. The reason why you feel like content creation is shouting into a void is because you haven't found that connection yet. You haven't been able to say, well, really, what? Why do I love this so much?
Some of us start businesses years ago, and then we're kind of in this loop and we're running our business, but we're not loving it. We're not living it. Once we're able to find that relationship with our business, content creation can then become so much fun. It can be just as fun as when someone asks you about why you love what you do inside or outside of your business,
If you don't feel like your business is a world yet, or your business is a home, then that's just the first step. And when I say that, I mean you've probably landed on websites or social media channels and it immediately gives you this like flutter in your heart, what I say.
What I was saying is that moment where you get on a website or someone's social media feed and you feel this flutter, you feel without even reading a single word on this website or social media feed, you're already invited into the world.
You're feeling warm or inspired or a little challenged, That's what I mean when I talk about building a world, building a home, that has a very specific point of view. As a brand, if you feel like your business doesn't quite have this yet, now if you've started your business and kind of have been DIYing it and DIYing the website and the brand and the social media, that's okay.
We've all been there. But that's why you're also feeling a block with posting on social media because you haven't found that world yet. As soon as you find that world, then you can get more dream clients and you can get more income. Of course, that's what we all want.
But more importantly, you can start falling back in love with the work that you do and actually waking up, getting excited about being able to create content or get on a call because now you're so clear on who you are and you can be intentional about the content you make because you know exactly what the world is that you've made.
You know what the home is, you know how to describe it. When it comes to your social media that's an ever changing living, breathing thing that you can revisit every single day and throw a little bit more fairy dust on the proverbial fire, and again, remind people like, this is my perspective on the world.
As soon as you start seeing that content creation isn't about. Marketing, you can start seeing that. It's really about romanticizing your business, checking back in with yourself every day like you would in a journal and just sharing that with people. That's the only difference is you're kind of journaling about something and then you're just sharing it with the world.
Maybe that journaling is through a design. Maybe that's through a quote. Maybe that's through a reel. Maybe that's through a blog post or a podcast or newsletter, but it's all the same thing. Written or verbal or visual. It's all inviting people into a world, inviting people into the home of what your business is.
So as soon as you're able to find the time and space to invest in something like that, it can start feeling good. Business becomes a feel good experience. You're living it, you're loving it.
If that's something that you feel like you're ready for, I would love to get on a fit call. Let's have a conversation about where you are in your business and where you wanna be, and we can talk about if that's something that I can help you with,
Thanks for listening, and I'll see you next time. Bye!
